On Wokeness and Performativity

Special Session with Author, Organizer, and Antiracist Educator Paul Kivel

In July, half-way through our book study, Paul joined us for a deeper dive into the work of organizing white folx for racial justice. This month he will share insight about the temptation and the inescapability of performing "wokeness" as white folx engaging in the work, especially early on. See our first session below.


Track A: Individual Introspection
Led by Admiral Church Racial Justice Coordinating Committee

Monthly meetings

(covering ~30 pages each session)



4th Mondays 3-4pm (starts January 25)

-Focus on personal experience of white identity

-Develop personal responses to privilege and white supremacy


3rd Mondays 8-9pm (starts January 18)
-Same content as SECTION 1
-Co-Facilitated with David Hancock (past president of Admiral Neighborhood Association)


Track B: Organization Analysis
Co-Led by Admiral Church and Westside Unitarian

Quarterly meetings

(covering ~80 pages each session)

Monday Evenings 7-8:30pm
3/22, 6/28, 9/27, 12/27

-Focus on systemic influence of white supremacy

-Develop personalized responses to privilege for your organization, business, or church


$50 for either Track A or B
$75 for both Track A & B

Registration fees will be donated in full to the Poor People's Campaign for Moral Revival


SPACE IS LIMITED: Track A Groups capped at 15 participants
