ADMIRAL

UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST

Our congregation has undertaken a risky thing during Eastertide- we are studying the Revelation to John. We are not studying it as a roadmap to the end of the world, nor as a moralistic allegory, but instead consider it an historical call for churches to stay loyal to Christ in the midst of Empire. We gather each week to unpack the symbols and the violence in the text, to reveal the way of our Loving God, hidden in plain sight.

April 28: The Coming Wholeness of God

Revelation 1: 4-8

"Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and on His account all the tribes of the earth will wail." v. 7

May 5: The Lamb Instead of the Lion

Revelation 5:11-14

"Worthy is the Lamb that was slaughtered
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!" v.12

May 12: God and The Great Ordeal

Revelation 7:9-17

"These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb." v.14

May 19: The Establishment of the New

Revelation 21:1-6

"And the One who was seated on the throne said, 'See, I am making all things new.'" v.5

Unfortunately, this sermon did not get recorded.

June 2: The Blood of the Lamb

Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17, 20-21

"Blessed are those who wash their robes" (22:14)

"[making] them white in the blood of the Lamb." (7:14)
